A Map of our Favourite Cafés of Montréal

1) Tim Hortons (’cause we don’t discriminate! ) – Agathe Nolla, Writer

2) Pikolo Espresso Bar – Erin Sass, Artist

A lovely little café within a 5-minute walking distance to campus.  Pikolo has a small, cozy upper balcony with a few tables and chairs, which is the perfect spot to finish up an assignment/reading.

3) Anticafé – Viva Noronha, Writer

I have to give this one to my former employers at the Anticafé. My absolute favorite part about working there was being privy to the multitude of reactions of first time customers as I explained the concept of the establishment to them. The walls are adorned with Russian art and the remaining blank spaces are filled with plants and Russian antiques. With less rigidity and fewer sharp corners than typical co-working spaces, you pay only for your time, within which you can consume as much food and drink as you’d like from pretty extensive coffee and snack menus. Customers can come into the kitchen to serve themselves and are invited to treat it like a second home, which means washing their own dishes too. While the charming aesthetics invite you to the cafe, the fragrant coffee, pancakes on tap, and friendliness of the staff and fellow customers is what keeps you there.

4) Café Myriade – Jacob Cunha, Writer

My colleagues keep getting me coffee from here. When I first tried it I had to stop working for a moment to gather the pieces of my blown mind.

5) Crew Collective & Café – Kelly Xiang, Artist AND Jacob Cunha, Writer

Kelly: Probably the most grand café I have ever been in. You feel like you’re studying in some castle or I don’t know, Grand Central Terminal Station. Prices are super reasonable considering the atmosphere and how pretty they look. The London Fog and Passionfruit Lemonade are my favorite since I do not drink much coffee. If you put on a light academia playlist and go there to study, you will burn through your whole book (theory is tested and approved).

Jacob: It gives me a power trip to sip on some quality coffee while studying in a bougie repurposed bank in the commercial district of the Old Port.

6) Café Santropol – Anna Mackay, Editor

Obvious choice, but for a reason! Santropol stays open late and serves great chai tea lattes and fantastic sandwiches. Plus, it has an adorable back garden for an early fall lunch.

7) Pourquoi Pas Espresso Bar – Evelyne Eng, Editor-in-Chief

The baristas here are crazy knowledgeable about coffee, like they have PhDs in the subject. They have the best cappuccino I’ve tried in Montreal, and if espresso is your thing, they rotate their espresso options often, using only fair trade beans of course. I also love that the space is small and cozy—local art hung on brick walls type of joint.

8) Café Olimpico – Jacob Sailer, Editor

Basic, I know. But I don’t drink much coffee. When I do, it’s always a Freddo or a Remix from Olimpico. Inventive drinks, quick service, buzzing ambiance, open late—they cover every base over there on Esplanade and Viateur. This past summer, I worked right next door, and I would consistently go twice a day. It’s that good.

9) Caffé in Gamba – Bridget O’Brien, Writer

Caffé in Gamba not only has delicious coffee (flat white with oat milk is my fav), but the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. They have a few tables in the front where you can set up your laptop and work or they have couches in the back where you can lounge and read. Definitely my go-to place for coffee.

10) Ferlucci Coffee Shop – Laure Bertrand, Writer & Co-VP Events

Un café maintenant, un chapelier auparavant, tu veux quoi de plus? Explore une partie de ville Franco, avec un cortado en main.

11) Café 92° – Jacob Cunha, Writer (yet again)

They have the whole package. Super friendly, knowledgeable, and personable baristas, coffee diverse enough for the whole family, and a lush Sherbrooke park right across the street? The only way this place could be better would be if there was a top-notch ice cream shop nearby… Oh wait! Look! It’s Ca Lem!
